Pipe Bursting and Thrust Boring

TBL offer pipe-bursting systems to break out old drainage pipes while simultaneously drawing in a new MDPE pipe behind a bursting arrow-like head.  Pipes/drains can be replaced under a road or railway track without having to excavate and therefore close the line or road, or under a building extension or conservatory without disturbance to floors or surface finishes.
Old pipe fragments are displaced as the new pipeline is formed and often much larger pipes are used to replace older smaller ones. Pipe Bursting can be used to renew pipes made of cast iron, ductile iron, steel, asbestos cement, plastic, concrete, pitch-fibre and clay-ware.

Alternatively, Thrust Boring is a solution for installing new pipes in virgin ground where accuracy is critical. Working from a compact launch pit a rod is thrust into the ground which pulls through a pipe into its proposed position.  With acurate detection technology located in the head of the rod to accurately establish its location underground to within millimetres at any one time, the rod can be directed around obstacles such as tree roots, pipes, ducting and building foundations until it emerges into a pit at the destination end.

With both Pipe bursting and Thrust boring a continuos lenght of new pipe can be drawn in where site conditions allow, or short sections can be butt-fusion welded as work proceeds.  TBL Thrust Boring provides accurate and safe installation at a rate of 3 metres per minute, without the need to dig up the entire pipe length thereby minimising disruption to the surface.
