Client
Nottingham City Homes
Location
Nottingham City Council Housing at Broad Oak Close, Hungerhill Road, St Anns.
Overview
The project was situated in an area of communial access between two rows of tiered council properties. Being on a sloping site, the higher level is retained by brick walling approximately 50m long by 2m high.
Problem
For public safety, Nottingham City Council closed the footpath and temporary support measures were put in place. This was due to pressure on the wall, causing it to lean severly in sections.
TBL Solution
In attendance with Anchor Systems (Europe) Ltd, test anchors were first used to establish suitability of required loadings for each anchor. TBL then installed 33 No. MR1 (50-90KN Load Range) galvanised Duckbill Ground Anchors along a 30m length of walling to stabilise it.
A further 16m section of walling had a lean of around 90mm in places. Here, temporary anchors were installed to enable the shoring to be removed and a new brick and reinforced concrete wall to be bulit to it's face to clad and support this section.
Benefit
Being an well-established Anchor System Approved Installer, TBL were able to offer an economical and cost effective solution with minimal disruption to a problem which alternatively would have required extensive take down and re-build works. This would greatly have affected the gardens and the upper level houses and resulted in a longer contract duration at far greater cost.
